International Dance Day in Prague
International Dance Day
International Dance Day is a globally recognized holiday registered under UNESCO, which falls annually on April 29 to commemorate the birth of dance reformer Jean-Georges Noverre.
For this occasion, this April, for the eleventh time in a row, Art 4 People have prepared a three-day celebration of dance in the form of GALA dance conservatories, GALA professional ensembles on the New Stage of the National Theater and an open-air program for the general public on Strelecky Island packed with performances by the best Czech dancers , workshops including ballet training on the pole and a nationwide flashmob.
Thank you to everyone who was a part and we look forward to next year!
Dance gala on Saturday and Sunday
As a harbinger of IDD (International Dance Day), there will be two more Gala performances on the New Stage of the National Theater on the weekend of April 27 and 28. Specifically, on Saturday, April 27, the audience can look forward to a dramaturgically varied program that will present the young talents of the conservatories, and perhaps reveal the future stars of domestic and foreign ensembles. We will see contemporary stars of ballet and modern dance on stage on Sunday, April 28, as part of the Gala of professional dance companies. Many guests from ensembles such as the Ballet of the National Theater Brno, 420PEOPLE, DEKKADANCERS or from regional theaters in Pilsen, Liberec and others accepted the performance. After several years in Prague, we will also see ballet soloist Michal Krčmár, who has been working as an étoile in the Finnish National Ballet for many years.
"Gala performances are an integral part of the art world. It is a welcome change for the audience, and a chance for the artists to meet old friends on stage or make new contacts. Often these connections serve a higher purpose, for example in various charity events, or create networking opportunities where we learn from each other's past mistakes and create better conditions for the future. It wouldn't hurt to have more such gala performances, ideally not only in culture but also in politics, in work, in life," concludes Michal Krčmář, who, thanks to his varied participation in international gala performances and festivals, was awarded the title "Premio Capri Danza Internazionale" for international dance merits.
